Services
Dispensing
If you live more than a mile from a dispensing chemist, we are permitted - if you wish - to supply your medicines ourselves. This is enormously convenient as in most cases we have a stock of what we commonly prescribe, and are able to supply prescribed medications at the time of the consultation without the delay and inconvenience of having to take the prescription to a chemist. This system also introduces extra levels of safety and sophistication: all prescribing and dispensing is done through our computer which automatically checks that the quantities and doses are correct, that you are not allergic to the drug and that you are not taking any other drugs that might conflict with the new medication.
How to order repeat medications.
Minor Surgery
Simple skin lesions, skin cancers, moles, cysts and blemishes, as well as most joint injections, are dealt with routinely in the practice without the need to attend hospital and endure long waiting lists. Thanks to the kindness of our patients, we have a very well equipped treatment room where these services are carried out quickly and efficiently.
Women's Services
Our Practice Nurses Meg Gerelli and Angela Bennett have received special training in Women's health and do much of the routine Cervical Cytology examination and testing.
We are able to offer a full range of contraceptive advice including the fitting of IUCDs (Coils). We also share the care of our pregnant patients with the District Midwife and the local hospital.
You should be aware that, like all our services, contraceptive and pregnancy advice is both entirely confidential to the individual, and independent of any moral or religious doctrine.
Get Forms Signed
We are frequently asked to sign Passport Applications, Private Insurance claims, and all manner of documents. Please do not take up surgery time with these administrative matters; simply leave the forms at reception and they will be completed within a couple of days to await your collection.
There is usually a charge made for the completion of non-NHS forms.
Home visits
In the time taken for just one home visit, three patients can be seen in surgery. Additionally, none of the equipment and services available in the surgery are available on a visit. So wherever possible, please come to surgery.
However we do recognise that severe illness and frailty does make getting about difficult, and if you telephone and ask for a visit before 10.00am, the doctor will do his best to call on you later the same day.
The NHS Executive does not regard not having your own transport as a justification for asking for a house call.
Travel Advice
Getting good advice on medical matters before travelling is becoming more and more complex. Both our practice nurses are highly skilled in this branch of medicine and will happily advise you. Please book an appointment to see one of them.
It really helps if you come prepared with exact dates of your proposed travel and your destinations at least a month before you are due to leave. Do some research yourself by visiting www.traveldoctor.co.uk which gives up-to-date information about what immunisations you may require. Some of these jabs, and all antimalarials, are not available on the NHS - so please be aware we may need to make a charge. Lastly, we are not licensed to administer Yellow Fever Vaccines - these may be obtained at our sister practice Cherry Orchard, Codford or at Tisbury Surgery.
Disability Access
It was very hard to find a suitable building in Fovant to use as a Doctor's Surgery and the Spring Orchard Surgery is indeed on two floors. However, we have parking immediately outside the surgery with a wheelchair ramp. The Doctor's consulting room is on the ground floor but if you need to see the Nurse in the upstairs Treatment room, we have a stair lift - thanks to the generous donations from our patients.
