Dr Andy Hall

Photograph of Dr Andy Hall Andy was born in Leicestershire in 1955 but spent virtually all his formative years in Northern Ireland and qualified from Queens University Belfast in 1979. Always wanting to be a GP and recognising that fantastic training was available in the South of England he was fortunate to find himself appointed to the Southampton GP training scheme and then in 1983 he became a partner in Wilton. He has worked locally ever since and became the senior partner at the Old Orchard Surgery (formally the Upstairs Surgery) in 1991.

From an early stage Andy was involved in general practice education and, over time, this took up more and more of his working day. In 2001, after many other more junior posts, he became the deputy GP Director for the Severn & Wessex Deanery. This meant he had overarching responsibility for the education of all GPs and those in training for General Practice within the six counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Avon, Somerset and Dorset, as well as being involved with much travelling throughout the UK to advise on GP matters. He has numerous publications on GP educational matters as well as sitting on many national committees and advisory boards.

Throughout the whole time however he has continued in his role as GP to his patients in Wilton - albeit in a limited manner - and his enthusiasm and commitment towards General Practice is undiminished. With the constant travel becoming a strain he jumped at the opportunity in 2007 when the merger between Old Orchard and Bechers Brook allowed him to return to his first love of General Practice. He now works contentedly full time at Fovant.

Andy separated in 2002 and has four grown up children. He and June married in 2008, she has three grown up children - so life busy. Outside his family he adores watching cricket (his wicket keeping days are over), travelling, reading and cooking. Oh and eating!
