Confidentiality
Confidential patient data will be shared within the healthcare team at the practice and with other appropriate healthcare professionals to whom a patient is referred. Those individuals have a professional and contractual duty of confidentiality.
Confidential and identifiable information relating to patients will not be disclosed to other individuals without explicit consent, unless it is a matter of life and death or there is a serious risk to the health and safety of patients or it is overwhelmingly in the public interest to do so. In these circumstances the minimum identifiable information that is essential to serve a legal purpose may be revealed to another individual who has legal requirement to access the data for the given purpose. The individual will also have a professional and contractual duty of confidentiality.
It is not possible to give any information regarding results etc. to a spouse, partner, or parents or guardian of young person who is mature enough to request confidentiality. If this causes you concern please speak to the Practice Manager.
We comply with the Data Protection Act of 1998.
Training
We sometimes have students spending time with us to gain experience in General Practice. They are under our supervision. You will be informed of their presence and they can only be present at the consultation with your permission.
